In Japan, mochi has been eaten to celebrate the start of the New Year since the Heian period (794AD - 1185AD). Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made from mochigome, a short-grain glutinous rice. It is traditionally made by pounding and folding hot steamed rice cake into sticky mochi using a mortar (usu) and a wooden mallet (kine).
From gingerbread houses to The Gingerbread Man, nothing quite symbolizes the holidays like gingerbread. One of the popular decorations for Christmas in Croatia is Licitar heart, a hand-decorated gingerbread cookie that was recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as the "Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage" for Croatian culture. Medenjaci (also made with honey, ginger and spices) is a local, melt-in-your-mouth cookie often served at Christmas.
Austrian Linzer cookies
Austrian Linzer cookies (Helle Linzer Plaetzchen in Germany) are named after Linzer torte, a pastry originated in the Austrian city of Linz. Linzer torte is one of the oldest known cakes believed to have been discovered in an Austrian abbey in the 1600s. It was later introduced to the US in the mid-1800s by an Austrian immigrant, Franz Holzlhuber, who was a baker.

Great experience. Fast shipping and easy to follow directions for making unique treats
This survey was sent before receipt of the eat2explore box. The box was received today - it was a gift to my grandchildren. They haven't tried any of the recipes yet but their mom was thrilled with the contents and she says everyone is looking forward to baking. Especially of note was that the more difficult ingredients were sent with the kit and everything else required is easily obtainable from the store. The 'about' information and the passports are interesting to the kids. :)
Hi Jenine - thank you so much for your understanding and your patience. We did our very best to make sure all boxes go out within 1-2 days but unfortunately all carriers (USPS / UPS / FedEx) are overwhelmed this year. We are glad to hear that your grandchildren are enjoying their culinary journey with us!!
The other kits gave enough food for a family of 4 plus a little extra. The cookies tasted good, but 4 cookies in a cookie recipe really isn't enough. I was disappointed to see how few cookies the recipes made.
This seems to be a nice gift idea for a teen. I can't review the product since I sent it to my grand daughter. I would like to have had it wrapped. $2 seemed reasonable for brown paper, but the additional $2.50 shipping charge for brown paper was unacceptable. I requested a personalized note be sent, it wasn't included so when it arrived they didn't know who it was for or from.
We have loved every box we’ve received!!
